KPK Arrests Five BPK Civil Servants Linked to Muara Enim Regent Case

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted an arrest operation targeting several individuals from the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK). Five state civil apparatus (ASN) officials from the BPK were arrested. For the time being, the identities and positions of the five civil servants have not been disclosed by the KPK. KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said the arrest operation involving BPK civil servants was a follow-up to a previous sting operation within the Muara Enim Regency Government in South Sumatra. In the Muara Enim sting, Regent Edison was named a suspect and detained by the KPK. He explained that the arrest process was allegedly related to gratuities connected to BPK audit findings in the procurement of goods, one of which was Smart TVs, in the Muara Enim case. Budi stated that a total of 11 people have now been detained in connection with the Muara Enim case that implicates Regent Edison. Six people were detained in the sting operation the previous day, while five new parties were subsequently detained in this follow-up operation. He confirmed that the five individuals are state civil apparatus from the Audit Board of Indonesia. Budi explained that the five arrested BPK civil servants were still undergoing intensive examination. The investigation has been officially elevated from an inquiry to a full investigation based on sufficient and valid preliminary evidence, and investigators will subsequently name the responsible parties as suspects in the bribery case involving the Muara Enim Regency Government and certain individuals within the Audit Board.
