The Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted a covert operation (OTT) in Cilacap, Central Java on Friday 13 March. During this operation, the investigative team secured 27 individuals, including Cilacap Regent Syamsul Auliya Rachman.

The arrests are believed to be closely connected to the practice of receiving unlawful payments or bribes to facilitate several projects within Cilacap Regency Government.

“Regarding the confidential investigation activities conducted today in the Cilacap region, there are indications of receipt of funds by the Regent related to projects in Cilacap Regency,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at KPK headquarters in South Jakarta on Friday 13 March.

Civil Servants and Private Sector Officials Apprehended

Budi explained that the individuals apprehended in the operation are currently undergoing intensive questioning in Cilacap. In addition to the regional head, the KPK also secured several State Civil Apparatus (ASN) members and representatives from the private sector.

“From state administrators, ASN, and possibly also from the private sector,” Budi stated.

The anti-corruption agency has 1×24 hours to determine the legal status of those apprehended. The KPK has promised to provide more detailed information through an official press conference regarding the arrest timeline and evidence seized. The KPK was unable to specify the total nominal value of items seized as verification remains ongoing.
