KPK Arrests 10 Individuals in Sting Operation Involving Muara Enim Regent

The Corruption Eradasting Commission (KPK) has arrested a total of ten individuals in connection with a sting operation (OTT) involving the Regent of Muara Enim, South Sumatra, H. Edison, on Monday (8/6).

“During this closed investigation, the team secured ten people across the Jakarta and South Sumatra regions,” stated KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo in a written statement on Monday afternoon. Budi noted that five of the detainees are from the Muara Enim Regency Government, including the Regent, while the remaining five are from the private sector. “The team is still in the field; we will provide further updates as developments arise,” Budi added.

According to circulating reports, the sting operation was accompanied by the sealing of several offices within the Muara Enim Regency Government, including the Office of the Education Department.

This marks the second major sting operation conducted by the KPK in close proximity during June. Previously, the KPK uncovered an alleged extortion case related to foreign national residence permits and/or the receipt of gratifications within the Directorate General of Immigration for the 2022-2026 period. That operation, conducted in Jakarta, West Java, and Bali on 2-3 June, resulted in 18 individuals being detained, eight of whom were named suspects, including high-ranking officials such as the former Deputy Minister of Immigration and various directors and heads of immigration offices.
