The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has conducted a large-scale operation in Cilacap Regency, Central Java. A total of 27 individuals were apprehended in the raid, including Cilacap Regent Syamsul Auliya Rachman.

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo confirmed the closed investigation activity conducted by the team in the field on Friday. “It is true that today the KPK carried out a closed investigation activity in the Cilacap Regency area, where our team today apprehended a total of 27 individuals, one of whom is the Cilacap Regent,” Budi Prasetyo said at the Red and White Building of the KPK in South Jakarta on Friday, 13 March.

Intensive Questioning

To date, the anti-corruption agency has not disclosed the complete identities or professional backgrounds of the dozens of individuals apprehended. Budi emphasised that investigative teams were still conducting further investigations at the location. “Currently, intensive questioning is being conducted there,” Budi said.

Plans are underway to bring some of those apprehended to Jakarta for further questioning at KPK headquarters.

“The team will conduct further questioning and bring them to the Red and White KPK building,” Budi added.

In accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), the KPK has 1x24 hours to determine the legal status of the apprehended individuals. Details regarding suspect status and case specifics are planned to be disclosed through an official press conference.

The hajj quota case is estimated to have caused state losses of Rp622 billion. The KPK has not yet been able to detail the total amount seized as it is still in the verification process. Those apprehended in the raid are currently undergoing intensive questioning in Cilacap. The KPK has 1x24 hours to determine the legal status of those apprehended in this operation. The field team has also brought along a number of other individuals allegedly involved in this case.
