KPK Appoints New Heads of Investigation and Prosecution

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) now has new heads of investigation through to prosecution following the inauguration of officials carried out on Friday (20 February).

First, former KPK Spokesperson Tessa Mahardika Sugiarto was inaugurated by KPK Secretary General Cahya Hardianto Harefa as Director of Investigation.

“I trust that you will all carry out your duties to the best of your abilities in accordance with the responsibilities entrusted to you. May God Almighty be with us,” Cahya said during the inauguration ceremony at KPK headquarters in Jakarta.

Tessa is a retired police officer who served as an investigator at the KPK. He was previously appointed spokesperson to replace Ali Fikri, who was recalled by the Attorney General’s Office. During the selection and testing process, Tessa served as Acting Director of Investigation.

In addition to Tessa, the KPK also inaugurated five other individuals to fill positions across various deputy offices.

The position of Director of Community Development and Participation is now held by Kunto Ariawan, whilst Maruli Tua was inaugurated as Director of Coordination and Supervision for Region V.

Iskandar Marwanto, who has frequently represented the anti-graft body in pre-trial hearings against corruption suspects, was inaugurated as Head of the Legal Bureau.

Taryanto was appointed as Director of Corruption Detection and Analysis, and Budhi Sarumpaet, who comes from a prosecutorial background, was appointed as Director of Prosecution.

“I wish to reiterate the directives of the leadership, particularly the chairman, during the recent structural working meeting, as well as the directives of the President during the central and regional government coordination meeting on 2 February, that we have been asked to carry out different activities in order to achieve different and better results,” Cahya said.

Previously, on Wednesday (18 February), the KPK had already held the inauguration and swearing-in of three new Senior High Officials. Those inaugurated were Brigadier General Asep Guntur Rahayu as Deputy for Enforcement and Execution; Aminuddin as Deputy for Prevention and Monitoring; and Ely Kusumastuti as Deputy for Coordination and Supervision.
