Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has announced that former Minister of Religious Affairs and suspect in the alleged Hajj quota corruption case, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas (YCQ), has been under house arrest since 19 March 2026, temporarily.

“Investigators have changed the type of detention for suspect YCQ, from detention in the KPK Branch State Detention House to house arrest, since Thursday (19/3) evening,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists in Jakarta on Saturday.

Budi further explained that Yaqut’s family requested on 17 March 2026 that the detention type for the Hajj quota case suspect be changed.

After that, he said, the KPK reviewed the request and granted it, considering Article 108 paragraphs (1) and (11) of Law Number 20 of 2025 on the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP).

Article 108 paragraph (1) of the KUHAP only regulates types of detention consisting of rutan detention, house detention, and city detention. Meanwhile, Article 108 paragraph (11) regulates that changes in detention type can be carried out based on an investigation warrant, with copies provided to the suspect, the suspect’s family, and relevant institutions.

“Its implementation is by changing the type of detention temporarily,” he continued.

Meanwhile, he assured that the KPK continues to conduct close supervision and security for Yaqut after he became temporarily under house arrest.

“We ensure that this temporary detention change process complies with the provisions and investigation and detention procedures for a suspect. Likewise, the handling of this case will continue to proceed in accordance with applicable laws,” he assured.

Previously, on 21 March 2026, the wife of the suspect in the alleged extortion corruption case and former Deputy Minister of Manpower Immanuel Ebenezer Gerungan, Silvia Rinita Harefa, spoke to journalists.

After visiting Ebenezer, Silvia spoke to the journalists waiting for her that there was information circulating among the detainees about Yaqut not being seen in the detention house.

“I didn’t see Gus Yaqut earlier. The info is that he left on Thursday (19/3) evening,” said Silvia.

She continued that she received information that Yaqut was also not seen during the Eid al-Fitr prayer on 21 March 2026.

“People inside say he’s not there. He’s not there,” she said.

When further confirmed whether only Ebenezer knew this information, she stated that all detainees knew.

“Everyone knows about it. They just wonder. They say there’s an examination, but it’s impossible to have an examination on the eve of Takbiran night. Even until today (Saturday, 21/3), there isn’t any,” she said.

Therefore, she suggested that journalists verify the information she received.

“You guys try to get more info. That’s the info,” she said.

It is known that Yaqut was named as one of the suspects in the alleged corruption case related to Indonesia’s Hajj quota for 2023-2024 by the KPK on 9 January 2026.

On 12 March 2026, the KPK detained Yaqut in the KPK Gedung Merah Putih Branch State Detention House after his pre-trial was rejected on 11 March 2026. The case was stated by the Financial Audit Board (BPK) of Indonesia to have caused state losses of up to Rp622 billion.
