KPK and Yaqut ready to disclose details in hajj quota corruption trial

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas have stated they are prepared to disclose full details during the trial of the alleged hajj quota corruption case. “At the trial stage later, everything will certainly be presented openly, including the construction of the case, which parties are suspected of involvement, their respective roles, and the evidence,” said KPK spokesperson Tessa Mahardhika at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Tuesday. According to Tessa, this will be presented by the KPK public prosecutor completely and transparently. Additionally, the KPK will present a number of witnesses to strengthen the prosecutor’s indictment against Yaqut and three other defendants. On a separate occasion, Yaqut Cholil asked the public to be patient regarding the disclosure of the hajj quota corruption case. “Yes, what has not been revealed will come out in the trial. Just wait for the trial, be patient,” said Yaqut at the KPK’s Red and White Building before entering a detention vehicle. The KPK named Yaqut and his former special staff member, Ishfah Abidal Aziz alias Gus Alex, as suspects on 9 January 2026. Meanwhile, Fuad Hasan Masyhur, the owner of the Maktour hajj organising bureau, was not named a suspect, although he was previously placed on a travel ban. The KPK subsequently received an audit report from the Supreme Audit Agency on 24 February 2026, which stated that the potential state loss in the case reached Rp622 billion. Yaqut was detained at the KPK’s Red and White Building branch detention centre on 12 March 2026, while Ishfah was detained five days later. Yaqut’s detention status was briefly changed to house arrest on 19 March 2026 at the request of his family, but he was returned to the KPK detention centre on 24 March 2026. In the development of the case, the KPK also named two new suspects on 30 March 2026, namely Maktour Operational Director Ismail Adham and former General Chair of the Indonesian Hajj and Umrah Tour Travel Association Asrul Aziz Taba. Both were subsequently detained on 8 June 2026. On 24 June 2026, the KPK suspended Yaqut’s detention and transferred him to the National Police Hospital after he experienced digestive health problems. The KPK re-detained Yaqut on 9 July 2026. On 14 July 2026, the KPK announced the transfer of the case files for Yaqut and the three other suspects to the KPK public prosecutor.
