KPK and OJK Renew MoU to Address Evolving Corruption Cases
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is updating its memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) to respond to developments in alleged corruption cases. “We agreed to renew the MoU, which will later be adjusted to the current situation and conditions of the financial services sector,” said KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto during an audience at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in Jakarta on Thursday. According to Setyo, the renewed cooperation will later enhance the KPK’s human resource capacity, particularly in understanding modern financial instruments such as cryptocurrency, which are increasingly relevant in tracing assets resulting from alleged corruption. Meanwhile, he said the KPK had proposed strengthening the integration of data and information between the two institutions through the use of systems that allow for more effective data exchange, while still observing confidentiality provisions and applicable regulations. On the same occasion, OJK Board of Commissioners Chairman Friderica Widyasari Dewi said strengthening collaboration between her institution and the KPK is an important part of ensuring the stability of the financial services sector. Therefore, she stated that the OJK is ready to expand the scope of cooperation by including emerging issues, including digital assets and cryptocurrency. “We are very open to the potential for broader cooperation, especially in facing the development of new financial service sectors,” she said. For example, strengthening support for the management of state officials’ wealth reports (LHKPN), coordination of case handling, asset tracing, utilisation of recovered assets, access to information related to share ownership and crypto assets, as well as opportunities for conducting parallel investigations in banking sector cases indicated to contain elements of corruption.
