KPK Again Mentions Hilman Latief's Name in Hajj Quota Case
Jakarta - The name of Hilman Latief, former Director General of Hajj and Umrah (PHU) at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, has again been mentioned in connection with receiving flows of money in the alleged corruption case involving the 2024 Hajj quota.
KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu stated that Hilman Latief received USD 5,000 and 16,000 SAR (Saudi Riyal) from Ismail Adham, the Operational Director of PT Makassar Toraja (Maktour), for arranging the filling of additional special Hajj quotas.
“The suspect ISM is alleged to have given HL (Hilman Latief) USD 5,000 and 16,000 SAR,” said Asep at the Merah Putih Building in Jakarta on Monday (30/3/2026).
Asep explained that the receipt of this money represents an interest from Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, who was the Minister of Religious Affairs at the time.
Hilman Latief’s name was first mentioned by the KPK after he was examined as a witness in the case on Thursday (18/9/2025).
The KPK suspects Hilman was involved in receiving flows of money in the arrangement of the Hajj quota filling.
“The investigators have suspicions that there was a flow of money to the Director General, which is the main focus. We are trying to obtain information from the person concerned,” said the acting Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the KPK, Asep Guntur Rahayu, at the Merah Putih Building in Jakarta on Thursday.
The Director General of PHU at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, according to Asep, is a key position in every organisation of Hajj and Umrah pilgrimage.
“When we discussed the flow of orders for the issuance of the decree earlier, we also asked about that, delved into that, from the flow of orders, delved into how this decree was issued, which became the basis for the subsequent problems,” said Asep.
Meanwhile, after being examined as a witness, Hilman Latief stated that the investigators asked about the regulations for distributing the Hajj quota at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
On that occasion, Hilman Latief also denied that the investigators pressed him about the flow of money in the vortex of the 2024 Hajj quota case.
“There was no (question about money),” Hilman Latief briefly stated on Thursday (18/9/2025).
