KPK Acknowledges Two Oppo Mobile Phones with Rp73,000 Reserve Price Selling for Rp59.72 Million as Anomaly
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has acknowledged that an anomaly exists regarding the exceptionally high auction winning bid value. Two OPPO mobile phones with a reserve price of Rp73,000 sold at auction for approximately Rp59.72 million, according to Mungki Hadipraktikto, Director of Asset Tracking, Evidence Management, and Execution at the KPK, speaking to journalists in Jakarta on Monday.
Despite this anomaly, Mungki explained that this is not the first occurrence of such an event. He cited a previous incident during an auction some time ago involving a silk batik shirt with a reserve price of Rp5,000 that received a winning bid of Rp5 million.
The previous winning bidder failed to pay the offered and agreed price. That bidder defaulted on their auction obligations and did not complete payment for the remaining auction costs. The item was subsequently re-auctioned and sold at Rp2.5 million in the following auction, with the winning bidder fulfilling their payment obligation. According to Mungki, this current situation marks the second occurrence of such an anomaly.
Based on the latest data available to him, the winning bidder for the two mobile phones with the reserve price of Rp73,000 has only deposited a guarantee amount and has not yet completed the full payment. The payment deadline is set for 25 March 2026.
As a result, the KPK is awaiting the winning bidder to complete payment for the two mobile phones. Mungki expressed hope that the winning bidder will honour their commitment to pay the auction costs. Should payment not be completed, the bidder will be deemed in default. Consequently, the guarantee amount already deposited will be forfeited and transferred to the state treasury, and the KPK will re-auction the items at the next auction opportunity.
