KPK Accepts Court Ruling in Blueray Cargo Bribery Case Involving Customs Officials

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has accepted the verdict of the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court against the leadership of Blueray Cargo Group. With this, the bribery case involving officials from the Directorate General of Customs and Excise has obtained permanent legal force. KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the court sentenced Blueray Cargo Group leader John Field to two years in prison and a fine of Rp300 million, subsidiary to 100 days of confinement. Based on trial facts, the judge found John Field proven to have committed the criminal acts as charged by the KPK Public Prosecutor. The verdict was read on Friday, 10 July 2026.

In addition to John Field, the judge also handed down guilty verdicts to two other defendants: Dedy Kurniawan Sukolo, Operational Manager of Custom Clearance at the Port for Blueray Cargo Group, and Andri, Head of the Import Document Team at Blueray Cargo Group. The judge sentenced both to 1.5 years in prison and a fine of Rp200 million each, subsidiary to 80 days of confinement. The defendants accepted the verdict.

Budi assessed that the judge’s decision is part of the law enforcement process that must be respected, reflecting the panel’s independence and objectivity in examining, adjudicating, and deciding the case based on trial facts. For the KPK, the most important substance of the ruling is that the panel of judges declared the defendants legally and convincingly proven to have committed corruption by giving bribes to state officials. This confirms that bribery, whether by the giver or the receiver, is an unlawful act that damages the integrity of state administration, creates a high-cost economy, and undermines the principles of fair business competition.

The KPK also noted the judge’s consideration that the defendants’ actions were inseparable from the role of unscrupulous Customs officials. Budi said this consideration further strengthens the view that corruption eradication must be carried out comprehensively against all parties involved in a corruption scheme. He added that thorough enforcement is part of the effort to break the chain of bribery practices while providing a deterrent effect, so there is no longer room for abuse of authority or unlawful methods in public service activities. The verdict also serves as a reminder that eradicating corruption depends not only on taking action against state officials who abuse their authority, but also on the commitment of business actors to conduct their activities in compliance with the law and uphold integrity.

In the indictment, prosecutors stated that John Field and his two subordinates bribed several officials at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise with Rp61 billion in money and the provision of entertainment facilities and luxury goods worth Rp1.8 billion. The recipients of the bribes included the Director of Enforcement and Investigation, Rizal; the Sub-Director of Intelligence at the Directorate of Enforcement and Investigation, Sisprian Subiaksono; and the Head of Customs Intelligence Section I at the Directorate of Enforcement and Investigation, Orlando Hamonangan. The cluster of Customs and Excise officials was prosecuted in a separate case file. Of the total amount, Rizal allegedly received at least Rp14 billion, Sisprian Rp7 billion, and Orlando around Rp4.05 billion. The remainder was enjoyed by other parties who have not yet been processed legally, including the Head of the Import Enforcement Section I at the Directorate of Enforcement and Investigation, Enov Puji Wijanarko. The facilities provided to the Customs officials included entertainment facilities worth Rp1.45 billion, a Tag Heuer watch worth Rp65 million for Orlando, and a Mazda CX-5 car worth Rp330 million for Enov Puji Wijanarko. According to prosecutors, the bribes were given so that Customs officials would expedite the release of Blueray Cargo Group’s imported goods from customs supervision.
