KPK: 20,000 Additional Hajj Quotas Should Go to Regular Hajj Programme
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has stated that the 20,000 additional hajj quotas granted by the Saudi Arabian Government for the 2024 CE/1445 AH should be allocated entirely to the regular hajj programme.
“Yes, the 20,000 quota should be for regular hajj quota because the reason for requesting it from the Saudi Arabian Government was precisely because the regular hajj quota has quite a long queue,” said Asep Guntur Rahayu, Deputy for Enforcement and Execution at the KPK, during a press conference in Jakarta on Friday (13 March 2026).
Furthermore, Asep explained that in June 2023, the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah announced that Indonesia received a main hajj quota for 2024 CE/1445 AH totalling 221,000 pilgrims and 2,210 officials.
“Then in October 2023, the Indonesian Government held a meeting with the Saudi Arabian Government. In that meeting, it was stated that Indonesia received an additional quota of 20,000,” he explained.
According to him, the increase was granted by Saudi Arabia because Indonesian hajj pilgrims must queue for decades, with some waiting up to 47 years to depart.
“So, what needs to be noted is that the reason the Saudi Arabian Government gave the 20,000 additional quotas to the Indonesian Government is because the regular hajj quota has a queue of up to 47 years,” he said.
