Tulungagung, East Java (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission states that 11 out of 13 officials from the Tulungagung Regency Government, East Java, who held witness status, have been returned to their home area of Tulungagung. This confirmation was provided by KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo when contacted by media personnel via WhatsApp message from Tulungagung on Monday. “The examination of the witnesses has been completed, and there will be no further examinations,” Budi said. He assured that all officials with witness status have been returned to Tulungagung after the examination process was finalised. Meanwhile, the other two individuals, namely Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo and the regent’s aide named Dwi Yoga Ambal, are being detained with suspect status for the purposes of the investigation. “Currently, there are no more Tulungagung officials at the KPK’s Red and White Building,” he stated. The case stems from a KPK sting operation that uncovered alleged extortion practices within the Tulungagung Regency Government environment. In the matter, the Tulungagung Regent is alleged to have demanded a sum of money from regional government organisations (OPD) with a target of Rp5 billion. However, from the operation’s results, the KPK secured approximately Rp2.7 billion in cash. The KPK is still continuing to probe the case to develop possible involvement of other parties.
