KPI calls on broadcasting institutions to become bastions of culture on the 93rd National Broadcasting Day

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) Ubaidillah has called on broadcasting institutions across Indonesia to become bastions of cultural preservation and education for the public on the occasion of the 93rd National Broadcasting Day (Harsiaras). To achieve this goal, particularly amid the challenges faced by conventional media against the rapid flow of information on social media, Ubaidillah stated that collaboration is needed among broadcasting professionals to create a healthy and enlightening industry ecosystem. “We need a more equitable broadcasting ecosystem for all industry players. At the age of 93, national broadcasting must be able to become a bastion of cultural preservation and information,” said Ubaidillah in his statement confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday. Under the theme “Broadcasting Collaboration to Realise National Resilience”, the 93rd Harsiaras supports the introduction of regulatory refreshes to create a more equitable and equal broadcasting ecosystem for all industry players amid digital era disruptions. Without regulations that balance the playing field (level playing field), the potential for local media to develop will increasingly be influenced by the dominance of foreign information flows that do not always align with national values. Nevertheless, to ensure the broadcasting industry can still grow in the digital disruption era, Ubaidillah advised industry players to actively adapt in terms of technology to content creation. In this way, the dissemination of information by the broadcasting industry can remain relevant in the eyes of young audiences who are accustomed to digital platforms. Ubaidillah also stated that creative and innovative broadcasting plays an important role in driving the independence of the creative economy, which is also part of the national grand agenda. Through inspirational content, the broadcasting industry can mobilise local potential and strengthen cultural identity, so that national resilience is not only built from the physical security aspect, but also the mental and spiritual resilience of the community. In closing his statement, Ubaidillah said that KPI is committed to continuing to oversee policies that support industry growth. In addition, KPI will also ensure equitable distribution of information to the remotest corners of the country through broadcasting, and ensure that public frequencies are fully used for the advancement of civilisation and the welfare of the Indonesian people.
