KPAI: Sleman Midwife Relocated Daycare and Closed Practice Amid Baby Discovery Case

The Indonesian Commission for Child Protection (KPAI) has discovered that a midwife, identified by the initials ORP, relocated her childcare facility prior to the discovery of 11 infants at her home in Sleman Regency, DIY.

KPAI member Diyah Puspitarini stated on Wednesday in Jakarta that the relocation from Gamping to Pakem indicates potential intentionality, particularly as the midwife claimed the daycare setup differed from standard childcare practices. She noted that the practice was also operating without a permit and that this finding requires further investigation.

Furthermore, the midwife reportedly deleted her social media accounts. Following tracking efforts, there are suspicions of abuse of authority and elements pointing towards illegal adoption or the trafficking of children, according to Puspitarini. KPAI is urging law enforcement to immediately determine the legal status of the midwife to ensure child protection and uphold the legal process.

KPAI maintains that the case extends beyond mere childcare, requesting an expansion of the investigation into suspected illegal adoption and child trafficking. The case came to light after local residents became suspicious of infant crying sounds emanating from a house over several days. Following a report to the police, Sleman Police and the DIY Social Services Department inspected the location on 8 May 2026, discovering 11 infants aged between 1 and 11 months. The midwife, ORP, reportedly assisted in the births of these 11 infants. The investigation by Sleman Police is ongoing, and no suspects have been officially named yet.
