KPAI: Online Pornography a Serious Crime Threatening Youth

The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) has praised the Cyber Crime Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police for their firm action in uncovering cases of alleged online pornography using social media platforms. KPAI Chairman Aris Adi Leksono, speaking in Jakarta on Tuesday (26 May 2026), stated that the case is no longer merely a moral violation but a serious criminal offence threatening the safety of the youth. ‘We view this not merely as a moral or indecency issue but as a serious criminal offence. The impact is substantial on efforts to create a digital environment that is child-friendly, safe, and comfortable,’ Aris said. ‘This means the threat to children is increasingly real—not only on adult-oriented apps but also on social media platforms where children frequently interact.’ Aris noted that if app providers care for child users, they should be capable of detecting and independently removing pornographic content. He also warned of the severe consequences of pornography addiction on children’s future, including emotional instability, mental health issues, reduced concentration in learning, and the risk of children imitating what they see, potentially leading to deviant sexual behaviour later in life. ‘Parents must monitor and check to prevent children from accessing high-risk content as early as possible, before exposure or addiction sets in,’ Aris added. Furthermore, KPAI urged all societal elements and law enforcement agencies to work together to maintain a healthy, safe, and child-friendly digital ecosystem to support optimal child development. ‘The case began with a report from officers conducting cyber patrols, followed by a police report on 1 May 2026,’ said Kompol Immanuel Sinaga, Head of Unit 1 of Subdirectorate 2 of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Cyber Crime Directorate, during a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday. ‘He stated that, according to the investigation, suspect SR operated a social media account under the initial K.’ ‘The suspect was found to have committed the acts between Tuesday, 28 April 2026, and Thursday, 30 April 2026, in South Jakarta,’ Immanuel added.
