KPAI: National Children's Day momentum to strengthen synergy in protecting children

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) hopes the 42nd National Children’s Day in 2026 will serve as momentum to strengthen synergy in joint efforts to protect children from the threat of violence.

“National Children’s Day is a reminder that child protection is not only the government’s responsibility, but the shared responsibility of all elements of the nation,” said KPAI Chair Aris Adi Leksono at a press conference for National Children’s Day in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The commission recognises that efforts to create safe, inclusive spaces free from violence for every Indonesian child still face various challenges.

Based on monitoring and public complaints over the past three years, child protection issues remain dominated by problems in the family environment, educational institutions and digital spaces—places that ought to be the safest for children’s growth and development.

Over the past three years, KPAI has received around 6,900 complaints of alleged child rights violations.

There were 3,883 complaints recorded in 2023, falling to 2,057 in 2024 and declining again to 2,031 in 2025, with 2,063 children as victims throughout 2025, comprising 51.5 per cent girls and 47.6 per cent boys.

“Although the number of complaints shows a downward trend, this does not necessarily reflect a decline in the level of child rights violations, but is also influenced by reporting access factors and the growing number of people lodging complaints directly with the Regional Technical Implementation Unit for the Protection of Women and Children (UPTD PPA),” said Aris Adi Leksono.
