KPAI: Legal Process for Beating of Child Leading to Death in Bantul is Slow
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) regrets the slow police handling of the case involving the beating of a child that resulted in death in Bantul, DI Yogyakarta.
“KPAI regrets the slow handling because only two perpetrators have been arrested, while there are seven versions (statements) from the perpetrators and 10 from the victim’s family,” said KPAI member Diyah Puspitarini when contacted in Jakarta on Tuesday.
According to her, in cases of special child protection, law enforcement officials should adhere to Article 59A of the Child Protection Law, which mandates that legal processes must be swift, victims must receive psychological counselling, social assistance, and legal protection.
The commission urges the police to process this case quickly and prevent similar incidents from recurring in the future.
“By considering the rights of the deceased child so that the child gets clarity on the cause of death and does not receive negative stigma,” said Diyah Puspitarini.

Then those two people took the victim to the Gadung Melati Pandak field in Bantul.
The victim is then suspected of being beaten and tortured by the perpetrators.
Information from the victim’s family indicates that the number of perpetrators is suspected to be ten people, consisting of adults and children.
To date, the Bantul Police have designated two perpetrators, initialled BLP (18) and YP (21), as suspects and detained them.
Police suspect this assault case is motivated by inter-gang issues.
