Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) hopes the government will take a firm stance in implementing Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas). “KPAI hopes the government will take a firm stance in implementing PP Tunas and monitor compliance by digital platform operators, followed by the imposition of strict sanctions,” said KPAI member Kawiyan, when contacted in Jakarta on Wednesday. According to him, the government’s firm stance is essential because the purpose of PP Tunas is to provide protection for children in the digital realm. “The implementation of PP Tunas, which becomes effective from 28 March 2026 and is marked by the disconnection and blocking of access to eight social media platforms, is the initial step in the state’s major commitment to providing child protection in the digital realm,” Kawiyan stated. The Ministry of Communication and Digital has issued Ministerial Regulation No. 9 of 2026 as the implementing regulation for Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas). PP Tunas becomes effective from 28 March 2026. Subsequently, digital platforms are not permitted to provide or accept requests for creating social media accounts from children under 16 years of age. Digital platforms must also block or deactivate high-risk digital accounts belonging to children under 16 years of age. The PP Tunas policy will be implemented in stages. For the first phase, eight digital platforms must block accounts belonging to children under 16 years of age, namely YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X (Twitter), Bigo Live, and Roblox.
