The Indonesian Commission for Child Protection (KPAI) has called on digital platforms to expedite concrete efforts to fulfil their obligations under Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on Child Protection in the Governance of Electronic Systems (PP Tunas). For platforms that are not yet compliant, including those that have received sanctions from the government, KPAI considers law enforcement to be the appropriate step that needs to be supported. Jakarta (ANTARA) - “To platforms that are currently in the category of not yet compliant and partially compliant, KPAI encourages the acceleration of concrete steps to fulfil all obligations in PP Tunas. Protection in the digital realm for Indonesian children cannot be delayed,” said KPAI Member Kawiyan when contacted in Jakarta on Monday. According to him, the commitment of digital platforms must be realised in tangible forms, starting from strengthening content moderation, child data protection, to responsive and child-friendly reporting mechanisms. He opined that sanctions are not merely a form of punishment, but also an instrument to ensure behavioural change and corporate responsibility in protecting children, including the responsibility of global digital platform companies. The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) has outlined the compliance levels of several digital platforms operating in Indonesia with PP Tunas since its implementation began on 28 March. Two platforms have submitted written commitments and are undertaking gradual adjustments to meet PP Tunas provisions. Meanwhile, Google has been deemed not compliant with PP Tunas, leading the government to issue the first written reprimand sanction on 9 April 2026.
