KPAI Appreciates Komdigi's Determination to Push Platforms to Implement PP Tunas
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) appreciates the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs’ strong efforts to implement Government Regulation number 17 of 2025 on Child Protection in the Governance of Electronic Systems (PP Tunas). “KPAI appreciates the Ministry of Komdigi’s steps as the government’s representative in persistently convincing digital platforms to comply with PP Tunas. The Ministry of Komdigi’s determination and patience embody the implementation of the constitution in child protection,” said KPAI member Kawiyan when contacted in Jakarta on Friday. His side also appreciates Meta’s steps that have shown compliance with PP Tunas. According to him, the challenges in the digital space are very dynamic, ranging from exposure to risky content, exploitation practices, to interactions that potentially harm children’s growth and development. “Therefore, consistent, transparent, and sustainable implementation of every provision in PP Tunas is the main key,” said Kawiyan. KPAI views that digital platforms are not only required to comply on paper, but also to ensure that their systems, algorithms, and internal policies are truly safe for children. “To other platforms that are currently in the partially compliant category, KPAI encourages accelerating concrete steps to meet all obligations in PP Tunas,” said Kawiyan. Previously, Meta, the technology company owning Facebook, Threads, and Instagram, ultimately complied with the rules to restrict children’s access to their social media platforms in accordance with PP Tunas. “Today, we are quite pleased to give appreciation to Meta, which oversees Instagram, Facebook, and Threads, which after the inspection last Monday, then showed an attitude of compliance in aligning their product features and services with the law in Indonesia,” said Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid on Thursday (9/4). Meta has changed the provisions in the Community Guidelines on its social media platforms. Based on the Community Guidelines on Meta’s social media platforms, the Facebook, Instagram, and Threads platforms were originally accessible to children aged 13 and above. Now, the Facebook, Instagram, and Threads platforms in Indonesia can only be accessed by users aged 16 and above in accordance with government provisions.
