KPAI Appreciates Hoegeng Awards 2026: A Tradition Worth Continuing
Commissioner of the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI), Kawiyan, has expressed appreciation for the Hoegeng Awards 2026. Kawiyan believes this awards event is worthy of continuation as it informs the public that there are still many police officers with good performance.
“This is a good award, a form of appreciation for police officers who work in remote areas, in places that are not highlighted, but their dedication and work are felt by the community,” said Kawiyan to reporters on Monday (3/8/2026).
Kawiyan stated that the tradition of the Hoegeng Awards should be continued. He also praised the judging process, which he considered highly objective and accountable.
“This tradition deserves to be continued, especially since the judging is very strict. The data submitted is cross-checked not only from the nominating party but also from other sources. I think the objectivity can be accounted for,” he said.
During the event, Kawiyan highlighted the recipient of the Hoegeng Awards in the category of Police Protecting Women and Children (PPA).
“Especially for the recipient of the award for protecting children and women, they are the front line. How the police must protect children, women, and vulnerable groups, protecting children both as perpetrators and as victims, they must truly be nurtured under the principle of the best interests of the child,” he said.
He also suggested that the National Police grant rights to children, whether they are perpetrators or victims in a case. He also expressed hope that the National Police would coordinate with various parties.
About the Hoegeng Awards
The Hoegeng Awards is a collaborative programme between detikcom and the Indonesian National Police to honour exemplary police officers. There are five award categories in the 2026 Hoegeng Awards: Dedicated Police, Innovative Police, Integrity Police, Police Protecting Women and Children, and Border and Remote Area Police.
The 2026 Hoegeng Awards process began with the nomination of exemplary police officers proposed by the public starting 27 January 2026. Nearly nine thousand names were submitted by the public before the nomination period closed on 2 April 2026.
From these numerous proposals, the Hoegeng Awards 2026 committee team conducted verification and initial selection. The names that passed the committee’s verification and selection were then submitted to the Hoegeng Awards 2026 Board of Experts, consisting of former Acting Chairperson of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Dr Mas Achmad Santosa, S.H., LL.M.; National Police Commission (Kompolnas) member Gufron Mabruri; National Coordinator of the Gusdurian Indonesia Network Alissa Qotrunnada Wahid, M.Psi; Vice Chairperson of the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) Putu Elvina, S.Psi., M.M.; and Chair of Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) Dr Habiburokhman, S.H., M.H.
The Hoegeng Awards 2026 Board of Experts held a series of meetings before finally selecting the nominees in each category. A public test was also held from Thursday, 7 May 2026, to Friday, 22 May 2026. During this stage, detikcom gathered input from the public regarding the candidates.
The following is the list of Hoegeng Awards 2026 recipients:
• Dedicated Police: Senior Commissioner Eko Budhi Purwono (Director of Community Development, Riau Regional Police)
• Innovative Police: Brigadier Renita Rismayanti (Member of the International Relations Division, Indonesian National Police)
• Integrity Police: Senior Commissioner Norul Hidayat (Head of the State Police School, Bangka Belitung Regional Police)
• Police Protecting Women, Children and Vulnerable Groups: Adjunct Senior Commissioner Siti Elminawati (Head of Unit 1, Sub-directorate 4, Directorate of General Crime Investigation, Central Sulawesi Regional Police)
• Border and Remote Area Police: First Inspector Motalip Litiloly (Head of the Patrol Unit, Nduga Resort Police, Papua Regional Police).
