KP2MI Partners with Lemhannas to Strengthen Nationalism Among Indonesian Migrant Workers
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Ministry of Migrant Worker Protection (KP2MI) has signed a cooperation agreement with the National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas) to strengthen national values for Indonesian migrant workers (PMI). “This represents a reinforcement of national values for prospective migrant workers, both those about to depart and those already working abroad,” said Minister of M2MI Mukhtarudin at the Lemhannas Building on Tuesday (5/5/2026). He emphasised that this strengthening is important amid the global challenges faced by migrant workers in destination countries. According to him, this step is necessary so that migrant workers continue to preserve their national identity and love for the homeland. Mukhtarudin stated that this programme is an important momentum in efforts to protect and develop Indonesian migrant workers. “So that even after being abroad for a long time, they still have a sense of belonging to the Republic of Indonesia,” he said. “The material is packaged in simple language with modern formats that are easy for migrant workers to understand,” said Mukhtarudin. “It needs to be packaged with very easy, simple material that can be understood by migrant workers,” he added. Lemhannas Governor Ace Hasan Syadzily added that the signing of this memorandum of understanding is a strategic step in strengthening inter-institutional collaboration. “The substance of this memorandum of understanding is that we agree to conduct education and improve the quality of human resources, especially in the context of consolidating national values for Indonesian migrant workers,” said Ace. He affirmed that migrant workers have a strategic role for the Indonesian nation because they not only contribute as foreign exchange heroes but also as representations of the nation abroad. “Migrant workers are actually not just foreign exchange heroes but they are also national envoys working abroad. This will further strengthen our soft diplomacy for our country,” said Ace.
