KP2MI Ensures Assistance for Indonesian Migrant Workers Involved in Taiwan Incident

The Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI) is continuing to monitor and oversee the handling of an incident involving a number of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) in Taichung City, Taiwan, which occurred on 14 June 2026. Based on the latest developments obtained through the Indonesian Trade and Economic Office (KDEI) in Taipei, Taiwanese authorities have detained seven Indonesian migrant workers suspected of being involved in the incident. The workers have the initials G, S, N, SF, NAN, R, and A. From initial identification, six of the individuals are known to be missing workers, while one is an overstayer. All of them are currently undergoing examination by local authorities and the investigation is still ongoing. Following up on these developments, KP2MI continues to coordinate with KDEI Taipei to obtain the latest information regarding the legal status, immigration status, and condition of the detained Indonesian migrant workers. KP2MI is also tracing and verifying data to confirm the identities and placement status of the workers involved. “KP2MI together with KDEI Taipei is continuing intensive coordination with local authorities to ensure the entire process proceeds in accordance with the law. The state is present to ensure every Indonesian citizen receives consular access, assistance, and protection that are their rights,” stressed Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers Mukhtarudin in a written statement on Tuesday (16/6/2026). Based on information obtained from KDEI Taipei and local authorities, the incident occurred around Taichung Station and involved a number of Indonesian citizens. Currently, Taiwanese authorities are still conducting an investigation to identify all parties involved and to thoroughly examine the chronology of the event. The minister also reminded of the importance of complying with regulations in the country of placement as part of efforts to maintain safety and self-protection while working abroad. “This case serves as a reminder for all Indonesian migrant workers to always work through legal procedures, maintain legal immigration and employment status, and comply with the laws of the country of placement. Compliance with regulations is an important part of self-protection and ensuring legal certainty during work abroad,” said Mukhtarudin. KP2MI together with KDEI Taipei will ensure that every Indonesian citizen undergoing legal proceedings continues to receive consular access, assistance, and protection in accordance with applicable provisions. “The Indonesian Government respects the legal process underway in Taiwan and will continue to coordinate with local authorities to ensure the case is handled fairly and transparently,” he stated. KP2MI urges all Indonesian migrant workers to always comply with the laws and regulations in force in the country of placement, maintain legal immigration and employment status, and avoid actions that could result in legal consequences for themselves or other parties. KP2MI will also continue to monitor the development of this case and provide further information should there be new developments.
