KP2MI Engages 11 Ministries to Prepare Competitive Workforce Training

The Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI) is involving 11 ministries to prepare globally competitive human resources training to ensure the success of the SMK Go Global programme. “We want to unify cross-sector efforts to train competent prospective Indonesian migrant workers who are ready to be placed in the international job market,” said Deputy Minister of P2MI Christina Aryani in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday. The statement was made after she chaired a technical coordination meeting for the preparation of the SMK Go Global Programme with representatives from 11 ministries that have vocational institutions at the KP2MI office in Jakarta. The 11 ministries include the Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, and the Ministry of Industry. Christina emphasised that the SMK Go Global Programme is a government initiative to place 500,000 Indonesian migrant workers in stages during the 2026–2029 period. She said the programme ensures that every participant who has undergone training preparation can work abroad according to market needs. “Therefore, the entire process, from participant selection, training, and certification to placement, must be carefully designed according to the expected output,” she said. During the meeting, Deputy Minister Christina also expressed her desire for the vocational classes already existing in the 11 ministries to adapt their curricula to global market needs. She also requested that ministries with vocational institutions prepare alumni data and assist in disseminating information to support the success of the SMK Go Global Programme. “Synergy between ministries and institutions is key to enabling Indonesia to produce competent, certified migrant workers who are ready to compete in the international job market,” Christina said. This year, the SMK Go Global Programme will commence from mid-July to December with a target of 40,000 prospective migrant workers. The programme targets vocational high school alumni and members of the general public who already possess basic competencies, allowing them to be prepared in a short time with advanced skills tailored to the requirements of destination countries, including foreign language proficiency and certification. Christina stated that the participant targets are based on verified real market demand through the Computerised System for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (SiskoP2MI) and Indonesian representatives in more than 130 countries. To achieve the target of 40,000 participants in 2026, approximately 2,000 training classes with a capacity of 20 participants each are required. The programme covers eight priority sectors with 31 types of positions, including healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing, transportation, agriculture, construction, and metal processing. In addition to ensuring participants’ competency readiness, the Deputy Minister of P2MI reminded that the biggest challenge remains at the final stage, namely the recruitment process by employers in destination countries. “Therefore, the entire development process must produce prospective migrant workers who not only meet competency and language standards but also possess the character and work readiness that match the needs of employers abroad,” concluded Deputy Minister P2MI Christina Aryani.
