Kowani Urges Public to Fly the Red and White Flag Throughout August

From homes and schools to offices and public spaces, fly the Red and White flag as a symbol of the spirit to build a progressive, sovereign, and prosperous Indonesia.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Women’s Congress (Kowani) is inviting the public to fly the Red and White flag at homes, offices, schools, places of business, public facilities, and residential areas from 1–31 August 2026 to commemorate the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence.

The General Chair of Kowani, Nannie Hadi Tjahjanto, stated in a written statement received in Jakarta on Sunday that flying the national flag is an expression of patriotism, respect for heroes, and a way to strengthen the spirit of unity in honouring independence.

“From homes, schools, and offices to public spaces, fly the Red and White as the spirit of building a progressive, sovereign, and prosperous Indonesia,” she said. Nannie added that the hoisting of the flag should serve as a symbol of unity, nationalism, and pride as the Indonesian nation.

According to her, the movement aims to support the development of superior human resources towards ‘Indonesia Emas 2045’ while accelerating the achievement of the ‘Astacita’ national priorities. Furthermore, Nannie invited all elements of the nation to support Kowani’s programmes, ‘Kowani Goes to UNESCO – Memory of the World’ and ‘Tempe Goes to UNESCO’, as part of cultural diplomacy and the strengthening of Indonesia’s food security on a global scale.

Deputy Minister of State Secretariat, Juri Ardiantoro, noted that the ‘Pesta Rakyat’ (People’s Festival) will take place all day, from morning until night, featuring various entertainment, traditional competitions, and free food distribution.

“On 17 August, from morning until night, the committee will also hold a People’s Festival in the Monas area. During the festival, there will be various activities, including competitions with attractive prizes for the public,” he said during a press conference at the State Secretariat Office in Jakarta on Friday.

The government has established the theme for the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence in 2026 as “Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia,” reflecting the national development direction with an emphasis on national independence, equitable justice, and public welfare.
