Kowani Commemorates Islamic New Year 1448 H at Istiqlal Mosque
The Indonesian Women’s Congress (Kowani) commemorated the Islamic New Year 1 Muharram 1448 Hijriah by holding a religious event titled ‘Senja Penuh Berkah: Doa Warisan untuk Generasi’ (A Blessed Evening: A Legacy of Prayer for the Generations) at Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta, on Tuesday (30/6/2026). Through this momentum, Kowani stressed the importance of strengthening women’s spirituality as the main foundation for building resilient families and producing a generation of noble character. This commemoration was not merely a religious ceremony, but part of a series leading up to Kowani’s 100th anniversary. Furthermore, the activity supports the Kowani Goes to UNESCO Memory of the World initiative, as a manifestation of the organisation’s commitment to preserving the historical value of Indonesian women’s struggles. Kowani Chairwoman Nannie Hadi Tjahjanto asserted that women with strong faith will be able to carry out their strategic role as ‘Ibu Bangsa’ (Mother of the Nation). According to her, the quality of the nation’s character begins within the family environment nurtured by women who know their God. ‘Through the spirit of 1 Muharam, we want to strengthen women’s spirituality. Women who know their God will have the strength to become problem solvers, capable of providing solutions for the lives of children and the nation’s future generations,’ said Nannie. She also added that the best legacy for future generations is not wealth or position, but faith, noble character, and education. This momentum was also used to strengthen the organisational solidarity of Kowani Federation members to be more synergistic and innovative in responding to community needs. In his sermon, Ustadz H. Maulana invited the congregation to make the Islamic New Year a turning point to improve the quality of worship and social awareness. He emphasised the importance of maintaining the five main objectives of Sharia (maqashid shariah) in daily life. Ustaz Maulana reminded that a mother’s prayer and a father’s exemplary conduct are spiritual legacies far more valuable than material possessions. Former Kowani Chairwoman Dewi Motik Pramono also underlined the meaning of the event’s theme. She referred to a mother’s prayer as a spiritual strength greatly needed by every generation. In line with this, Hj. Nur Azizah Ma’ruf Amin stated the commitment of Saudagar Muslimah Indonesia to continue synergising with Kowani in delivering programmes that have a real impact on society. The 1 Muharam 1448 H commemoration concluded with the hope that the spirit of hijrah would inspire Indonesian women to continue working, strengthen family resilience, and become the foundation for an advanced and competitive Indonesia.
