Kotim inaugurates operational building for Integrated People's School 01

The East Kotawaringin Regency (Kotim) government in Central Kalimantan has inaugurated the use of the Integrated People’s School (SRT) 01 building, marked by an open house and pre-School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS) activities. The event was held in Sampit on Thursday.

East Kotawaringin Regent Halikinnor stated that the district is grateful to be one of the areas deemed eligible by the Ministry of Social Affairs to host a People’s School. This year marks the second year of the programme in Kotim. Previously, all activities were conducted at a temporary site in the former Hajj dormitory within the Kotim Islamic Centre Complex. Activities are now being gradually relocated to the new SRT 01 building on Jalan Wengga Metropolitan in Baamang District.

Halikinnor explained that the presence of the People’s School is a tangible commitment by the government to ensure every child receives their right to education, unhindered by their family’s economic circumstances. All student needs during their education are covered by the government, including accommodation, three meals a day, two snacks, learning supplies, and a laptop for each student.

"Everything is covered by the state. Meals, sleep, living here. Even their parents are given business stimulus. This programme is not only about improving human resources but also about eradicating extreme poverty," he said.

SRT 01 Kotim Head Nikkon Bhastari reported that for the 2026/2027 academic year, the school has accepted 270 new students, comprising 50 primary, 117 junior high, and 103 senior high school students, excluding reserve candidates. The school previously had 100 first-batch students, consisting of 50 primary and 50 senior high school students, bringing the total number of students to grow alongside the programme’s development.
