Koster Urges Speedy PSEL Construction for End-2027 Operation
Bali Governor Wayan Koster has requested that the construction of the Waste-to-Energy (PSEL) plant be accelerated, aiming for completion within 15 months so that it can become operational by the end of 2027.
Koster made this request during his speech at the inauguration of the PSEL construction in Pesanggaran, Denpasar, Bali, on Wednesday (8/7/2026).
“Hopefully, the good collaboration initiated today will proceed smoothly and successfully, and may it be completed on time. The promise is at most one year and six months. However, I also promised 15 months, not 18 months,” said Koster.
Koster hopes this target can be realised so that the PSEL project is finished by October 2027. He also requested support from the Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan, to ensure construction meets the target.
“If this is completed by the end of 2027 and can operate by, for example, December, then the waste problem in Bali, which is a challenge to Bali’s tourism, can be fully resolved under President Prabowo Subianto,” Koster explained.
Koster believes that the operation of the PSEL plant will not only create a healthier environmental ecosystem but also enhance Bali’s tourism image. According to him, Bali’s tourism sector remains resilient despite various issues such as traffic congestion, waste, and water availability.
“That is why tourism in Bali must be well-maintained, and certainly, this waste issue must be resolved, so that Bali’s tourism image can become even better, high-quality, and competitive in the future,” Koster stated.
For information, the construction of the PSEL officially commenced in Pesanggaran, Denpasar, Bali, on Wednesday (8/7). The project is being built on six hectares of land owned by PT Pelindo.
The inauguration was conducted by the Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan. The event was also attended by the Minister of Environment Jumhur Hidayat, the Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM Rosan Roeslani, CIO of Danantara Pandu Patria Sjahrir, and Bali Governor Wayan Koster.
