Koster urges Denpasar, Gianyar, Badung to accelerate economic census for tourism data

Bali Governor Wayan Koster has urged the three regions of Denpasar, Gianyar, and Badung to seriously accelerate the 2026 Economic Census (SE), as their data is essential given their status as tourism areas. “Take this seriously. Denpasar, Badung, and Gianyar should be more active because they receive the highest hotel and restaurant taxes and need this data the most,” Koster said in Denpasar on Saturday. Amid the economic census conducted by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Koster views this as an opportunity to capture the economic condition of Bali, including tourism as the main economic sector. According to BPS records up to early July, the average progress of the 2026 Economic Census in Bali stands at 43.35 per cent, surpassing the national average of 42.75 per cent. However, the completion rate in Denpasar is the lowest in Bali at 31.38 per cent, followed by Gianyar at 32.27 per cent, Badung at 36.65 per cent, Bangli at 46.22 per cent, Klungkung at 46.27 per cent, Jembrana at 47.05 per cent, Tabanan at 47.96 per cent, Karangasem at 51.07 per cent, and Buleleng at 54.95 per cent. The Bali Provincial Government believes that if the Sarbagia region (Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar) has real data, it will be easier to collect data on tourism businesses such as hotels, villas, accommodation, and travel agencies. “So I am giving Gianyar, Badung, and Denpasar a target. When you return from here, step on the gas. I will monitor directly. Give me the dashboard if there is one. If there are any problems, I will report to the Home Affairs Minister,” Koster stated.
