Koster urges Denpasar, Gianyar, Badung to accelerate economic census for tourism data

Denpasar (ANTARA) - Bali Governor Wayan Koster has asked three regencies — Denpasar, Gianyar and Badung — to take the 2026 Economic Census (SE) seriously and speed it up, as the data is needed by these tourism-dependent areas.

“Take this seriously. Denpasar, Badung and Gianyar should be more diligent because they receive the highest hotel and restaurant tax revenues and need our data the most,” Koster said in Denpasar on Saturday.

Amid the economic census being conducted by Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Koster sees it as an opportunity to capture a snapshot of Bali’s economic condition, including tourism as the main sector of the economy.

According to BPS records up to early July, Bali’s average progress on the 2026 Economic Census stands at 43.35 per cent, surpassing the national average of 42.75 per cent.

Denpasar has the lowest achievement in Bali with progress of 31.38 per cent, followed by Gianyar at 32.27 per cent, Badung at 36.65 per cent, Bangli at 46.22 per cent, Klungkung at 46.27 per cent, Jembrana at 47.05 per cent, Tabanan at 47.96 per cent, Karangasem at 51.07 per cent, and Buleleng at 54.95 per cent.

The Bali Provincial Government believes that once the Sarbagia areas (Denpasar, Badung and Gianyar) have real data, it will make it easier to collect data on tourism businesses such as hotels, villas, guesthouses and travel agencies.

“So I am giving Gianyar, Badung and Denpasar a target: when they leave here, step on the gas. I will monitor it directly; give me the dashboard, and if there are any problems I will report to the Home Affairs Minister,” Koster said.
