Denpasar (ANTARA) - Bali Governor Wayan Koster has requested additional cargo ferry schedules to Nusa Penida in an effort to reduce the high prices of basic necessities on the small island, which is part of Klungkung Regency.

“I ask the Transportation Agency and the Regent of Klungkung to trial an increase in trips, from two to three times per day. If this additional trip is implemented, the price difference between mainland Klungkung and Nusa Penida will no longer occur,” Koster stated in Denpasar on Tuesday.

The Governor explained that this directive was issued in response to the high cost of basic necessities, particularly food, in Nusa Penida, which differs from conditions on mainland Klungkung.

To equalise prices or narrow the gap, he believes the frequency of goods deliveries must be increased. “Supply will be smooth and stock will also be secure, even though the subsidy will increase from Rp1.4 billion for two trips to Rp2.1 billion for three trips,” he said.

Klungkung Regent I Made Satria responded by confirming that the price difference between mainland Klungkang and Nusa Penida has been caused by stock shortages, as well as goods queuing due to limited crossing schedules.

Satria agreed that a new regulation is needed to establish more frequent goods deliveries.
