Bali Governor Wayan Koster has proposed that the building of State Primary School (SDN) 5 Banjar be reconstructed as a multi-storey structure. Koster made this suggestion because the school has repeatedly been affected by flash flooding due to river water overflowing in Banjar Village, Buleleng District.

“This school has experienced flooding several times because the river water has exceeded its limits. Therefore, the long-term solution is to demolish this building and reconstruct it as a multi-storey structure,” said Koster whilst inspecting SDN 5 Banjar on Sunday (15 March 2026).

It is known that three classrooms at SDN 5 Banjar suffered considerable damage as a result of the flash flood. A number of learning materials and the school library’s book collection were also submerged by flood water.

According to Koster, the school’s reconstruction is necessary to ensure that teaching and learning activities are no longer disrupted each time flooding occurs. He stated that technical planning for the reconstruction would be prepared by the government.

The Bali Provincial Government, Koster said, is open to providing financial support for constructing the new building through a Special Financial Assistance (BKK) scheme. As a short-term measure, Koster requested that the school and village administration promptly document the learning facilities that were damaged by the flooding.

The flash flood struck Banjar Village, Buleleng, on Friday (6 March). Three residents were found dead and one person remained missing.

The three deceased victims were Ketut Adi Suarjana (55), Komang Suci (44) along with her child Kadek Wahyu (12). The missing victim is Putu Wini (17), who is also a child of Komang Suci.
