Kosambi Fire Unextinguished After Seven Hours as Water Scarcity Hinders Efforts
The fire that struck 26 warehouses in the Kosambi Permai Warehouse Area, Tangerang Regency, Banten, had not been extinguished after seven hours. The flames first appeared around 12:00 WIB, and as of Wednesday (16/9) evening, at 19:00 WIB, officers were still battling the blaze.
Husni, Commander of the Kosambi Fire Station of the Tangerang Regency BPBD, stated that the firefighting process was hindered by a lack of water sources around the location. The situation was exacerbated by the large amount of flammable materials stored within the warehouses.
“The water source is far away, and there are many flammable materials such as foam from spring beds,” said Husni.
Husni noted that the nearest water source is approximately 1 kilometre away from the fire site, which has caused the extinguishing process to be prolonged. “We have to fetch water from about 1 kilometre away, from a small river nearby,” Husni added.
Husni explained that some parts of the fire had begun to subside, but flames were still raging in other areas. “The front section is still active, while the rear section is currently undergoing a cooling process and some parts have been extinguished,” he clarified.
During the firefighting operation, 12 units of vehicles from the BPBD, Brimob Polri, Koramil TNI, PIK, and the Jakarta Fire Department were deployed to the scene. Husni estimated that approximately 50 personnel were involved in the effort.
Earlier, the fire struck dozens of warehouses in the Kosambi Permai Warehouse Area, Kosambi District, Tangerang Regency, Banten, on Wednesday (16/9) afternoon. The BPBD stated that the fire was suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit in a spring bed storage warehouse. However, the exact cause of the fire will be investigated by the relevant authorities.
