Kosambi barred from industry

TANGERANG (JP): Kosambi district was designed for warehouse developments, not as industrial estate, as stipulated in the Tangerang regency spatial planning regulations, local administration spokesman Machdiar said recently.

"So we urge businessmen who have built factories in Kosambi to move to other areas," Machdiar told reporters.

He was responding to local councillors who discovered during a recent visit to Kosambi that some warehouses were being used as factories.

Owners of the factories told the councillors they had obtained permits from the local administration. They also suggested that the spatial planning regulations be revised to allow for the increased industrial activities in the area.

According to Machdiar, Regent Agus Djunara had ordered officials in the regency office of the Ministry of Industry and Trade not to issue permits to people who wished to change the designation of their building's usage in Kosambi. (41/jun)
