Kortas Tipikor Seizes Documents and Electronic Evidence After Searching Wika Office
The Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortas Tipikor) of the Indonesian National Police seized a number of documentary and electronic items of evidence after searching the offices of Wijaya Karya (Wika) on Tuesday (9/6).
Head of the Kortas Tipikor Investigation Team, Senior Commissioner Gunawan, stated that the evidence seized came from the 3rd and 12th floors, which were searched by investigators.
“We conducted the search at the Wika office on the 3rd floor and the 12th floor, and naturally on those floors there are many rooms that we accessed which we consider or suspect contain relevant evidence,” he said following the search.
“The evidence includes documents in both soft copy and hard copy formats. There are also emails,” he added.
Gunawan said the seized evidence will be analysed immediately for use in the case review process to determine suspects in this matter.
He confirmed that the naming of suspects will be carried out promptly so that this corruption case does not drag on and to provide legal certainty for the suspects involved.
“We want to accelerate this investigation process so it does not become protracted and can ultimately provide legal certainty, justice, and benefit,” he explained.
Meanwhile, in an official statement, WIKA’s Corporate Secretary said the company respects the ongoing legal process and fully submits to law enforcement authorities in accordance with applicable regulations.
“The company supports and affirms its commitment to cooperate and be transparent so that the process can proceed professionally,” the statement read.
Previously, Kortas Tipikor Polri had been investigating alleged corruption in the Assembagoes Situbondo sugar factory development project owned by PTPN XI.
This project ran from 2016 to 2022, based on modernisation using an engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) scheme.
The project, initiated as part of a strategic state-owned enterprise programme, received funding from State Capital Participation (PMN) amounting to Rp650 billion, with additional loans worth more than Rp462 billion.
However, during its implementation it was discovered that the main contractor, the KSO Wika-Barata-Multina consortium, did not involve parties with expertise in sugar technology. The project also failed to meet several promised performance guarantees, such as milling capacity, product quality, and electricity production for export.
PTPN XI terminated the contract with the KSO Wika-Barata-Multina consortium after it failed to meet the conditions stipulated in the contract. Total payments made by PTPN XI to the contractor reached 99.3 percent of the contract value, which amounted to Rp716.6 billion.
