Kortas Tipidkor Seizes Documents in Sugar Factory Project Probe

Investigators from the Police’s Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortas Tipidkor) have seized a number of documents after searching the office of a state-owned construction company on Jalan D.I. Panjaitan, East Jakarta. The action relates to an investigation into alleged corruption in the revitalisation and modernisation project of the Assembagoes Sugar Factory in Situbondo. The head of the investigative team, Senior Commissioner Gunawan, stated that evidence was seized in soft copy and hard copy formats, including emails. Investigators were seen using a single black suitcase to carry the seized items. The search was conducted on the 3rd and 12th floors of the building. Gunawan noted that several rooms on those floors were accessed based on suspicions they contained evidence relevant to the case, but he did not provide specific details about which rooms were searched. He affirmed that the investigation and search were carried out professionally, transparently, and accountably. The inquiry concerns the EPCC project for the Assembagoes Sugar Factory. The development and modernisation project ran from 2016 to 2022, receiving Rp650 billion in State Capital Participation funds and additional loans exceeding Rp462 billion. However, the project failed to meet several main targets, including milling capacity, product quality, and electricity production for export. Investigators are still examining the case and have not yet named any suspects.
