Korpri and Independence Day

Korpri and Independence Day

From Media Indonesia

Each time the country commemorates its Independence Day
anniversary, the country's civil service corps (Korpri) is the
most prominent of all state machineries in observing the national
day, an indication of the civil service's devotion and loyalty to
the nation and the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia.

During Soeharto's era between 1971 and 1998, almost all civil
servants in ministries, state ministries, regional government
administrations and state/regional enterprises took part in
ceremonies observing Independence Day. However, this year,
although the employees of state enterprises that have left
(Korpri), such as BNI, BRI, BTN, PT Telkom, Indosat and
Pertamina, both in Jakarta and the regions, had a day off, only a
handful of them went to their offices to attend ceremonies to
mark the 56th anniversary of our Independence Day.

If this ceremony is attended by only (Korpri) members, how can
non-Korpri civil servants in state enterprises show their loyalty
and nationalism because state enterprises are also the state's
assets.

Therefore, the state ministers for administrative reform and
state enterprises must ensure civil servants attend ceremonies
marking national holidays like National Education Day, National
Awakening Day, Heroes Day and Youth Pledge Day.
