The Indonesian Air Force’s Korpasgat assisted in a basic parachute training exercise for personnel from the Army’s Special Forces Corps (Kopassus) and the 848th Territorial Infantry Battalion (Yon TP) at Suparlan Air Force Base in Bandung, West Java, on Tuesday (26 May). In an official press release, the support was provided to facilitate cross-service training within the Indonesian military. Head of Korpasgat Public Affairs, Colonel (Pas) Jaito Novian Sulistiyono, stated his unit provided support in two roles: Visual Control Post (VCP) and Jump Master. “These duties were carried out by Korpasgat’s 1st Matra Detachment to support the basic parachute training,” Jaito said. Thirteen Korpasgat personnel served as VCP at the drop zone, while ten acted as Jump Masters on board the aircraft. A total of 920 paratroopers were dropped from 1,200 feet using an Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft from the 31st Air Squadron with tail number A-1320, Jaito said. Jaito expressed hope that the exercise would enhance TNI personnel’s parachuting capabilities and strengthen inter-service cohesion. VCP personnel are responsible for determining the landing point for paratroopers. They also ensure jumpers exit the aircraft at the correct time and land precisely on target, taking into account weather conditions and wind speed. VCP also communicates with pilots to confirm the drop zone. In combat scenarios, they secure the drop zone from enemy threats. Jump Masters, meanwhile, operate inside the aircraft alongside paratroopers. Their duties include ensuring soldiers have correctly fitted parachutes and checking all necessary equipment. Jump Masters also give the signal for paratroopers to exit the aircraft.
