Korlantas Prepares Digital Driving Licence: Features and Advantages
Jakarta, Kompas.com – Digital transformation is extending into traffic administration services. The Driving Licence (SIM) is no longer available solely as a physical card but is now accessible in digital format directly through mobile phones.
The Digital Driving Licence is part of the modernisation of public services being developed by the Traffic Police (Korlantas) of the National Police to make it easier for the public when driving and during roadside inspections.
“Through the Digital Korlantas Police application, the public can store and display the driving licence in digital form,” said Wibowo in a statement on Friday (22 May 2026).
“The available data includes the owner’s identity, licence number, validity period, and is equipped with a QR code for verification purposes by officers in the field,” he said.
Officers need only carry out verification through the Korlantas centralised system using the digital licence stored on the driver’s phone.
With this system, the physical driving licence card will eventually serve merely as a backup document that can be kept at home.
In addition to facilitating inspections, the use of a Digital Driving Licence is considered safer because the data is stored directly on the central server and can be verified in real time through a QR code.
Users can enjoy features such as online licence renewal, validity period notifications, and integration with the electronic traffic law enforcement system (ETLE).
However, Korlantas Police emphasised that full implementation of the Digital Driving Licence is still awaiting regulatory and infrastructure readiness across all regions of Indonesia.
“At the initial stage, we continue to advise the public to carry the physical licence as a backup whilst waiting for system readiness across all regions,” said Wibowo.
