Korlantas: Preparations for 2026 Mudik Security 95 Per Cent Complete
Jakarta, Kompas.com – The Indonesian Police’s Traffic Corps (Korlantas) together with several stakeholders said preparations to secure the mudik and balik traffic for Lebaran 2026 have reached 95 per cent ahead of the Ketupat Operation 2026. Director of Enforcement (Dirgakkum) of Korlantas Polri, Brigadier General Faizal, said cross‑sector coordination has been sharpened to anticipate traffic growth, especially on main mudik routes. The statements were made after a coordination meeting at the Astra Infra Toll Road Cikopo–Palimanan office, according to an official statement published on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. He explained that the readiness of stakeholders such as the Department of Transportation, BPJT, BUJT, the Health Department and BMKG is assessed as quite good. Korlantas hopes the collaboration established can become even more solid when the peak of the flow occurs. Not only relying on the main scenario, Korlantas is also preparing anticipatory steps to address possible surges in vehicles beyond projections. The potential for traffic spillovers, whether heading to home towns or during the return flow, remains a consideration in planning. A number of surveys have been conducted at strategic points, ranging from tourist areas and ports to the latest inspection in Merak. The government has also reportedly carried out improvements and added supporting infrastructure, including additional piers to facilitate crossing. Korlantas also urged transport operators to comply with operational restrictions for vehicles with three axles or more during certain periods. Exemptions are provided for transport of essentials, fuel and disaster response assistance. From an infrastructure perspective, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) confirms that all road repair and maintenance work will be halted no later than ten days before Lebaran. Thus, by seven days before the Ketupat Operation, all toll roads and arterial roads are expected to be in optimal condition for mudik travellers.
