Korlantas Polri to Implement National One-Way System on KM 70-414 from Wednesday (18/3) Afternoon
The Indonesian National Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri) has officially launched a nationwide one-way traffic scheme on Wednesday (18/3). The scheme will be implemented from KM 70 on the Cikampek Toll Road to KM 414 on the Kalikangkung Toll Road to anticipate the surge in outbound traffic during the Eid holiday period.
The Head of Korlantas Polri, Brigadier General Agus Suryonugroho, explained that the policy was adopted based on observations of vehicle volume increasing significantly on toll routes heading eastward.
“Tomorrow (Wednesday), the flag-off for the national one-way Eid exodus scheme will take place at 12:00 noon, possibly led by the Minister of Transportation as well,” Agus said at the Command Center Post at KM 29 on the Cikampek Toll Road, West Java, on Tuesday (17/3) evening.
This step represents a continuation of earlier efforts to ease congestion. On Tuesday (17/3) afternoon, police had already implemented a localised or partial one-way scheme in the first phase from KM 70 to KM 263 starting at 15:00.
Agus stated that the decision to accelerate and expand the scope of this traffic engineering measure was based on intensive coordination between relevant institutions.
“Based on direction from the Police Chief, the Transport Minister, and discussions with the Jasa Marga Director that at 12:00 there is a surge in traffic flow. Therefore, we immediately reported to the Police Chief to take steps in accordance with the joint decision letter,” he explained.
In addition to the one-way policy, Korlantas is also implementing contraflow engineering at other critical points, namely from KM 55 to KM 70.
This measure aims to ensure that the flow of vehicles heading to the Trans Java Toll Road remains moving and is not held up at the junction of traffic flows.
Police emphasised that the duration and distance of this traffic engineering measure is dynamic, depending on real field conditions. Evaluations will continue to be conducted with Jasa Marga to determine whether this scheme needs to be extended or can be normalised immediately.
“Will there be another peak flow tonight? We will coordinate with the Jasa Marga Director. If there is another surge in traffic, we may be able to extend the one-way scheme. But if it eases, we will continue to evaluate,” Agus concluded.
