Korlantas Polri outlines the advantages of digital SIM
Jakarta – The Traffic Corps (Korlantas) of the Indonesian Police (POLRI) has detailed the advantages of the digitalisation of traffic documents that was just launched, namely the digital SIM. The Director of Registration and Identification (Dirregident) of Korlantas POLRI, Brigadier General Pol. Wibowo, said the public can store and display the SIM in digital form via the Digital Korlantas POLRI app. ‘The data available includes the owner’s identity, the SIM number, the period of validity, and is equipped with a QR code for verification by officers in the field,’ he said in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday. He said that with full implementation of the digital version, motorists undergoing traffic checks will not need to show a physical card. Officers, he added, only need to verify validity via the central Korlantas system on the motorist’s digital SIM on their mobile phone. ‘Going forward, the validity of the SIM will rely on data stored on the server, not solely on the physical card. This will increase efficiency, accelerate the inspection process, and minimise the potential for forgery,’ he said. In addition, the digital system is integrated with various other services, such as online SIM renewal, expiry notifications, and integration with the Electronic Traffic Violation System (ETLE). However, at this initial stage, Wibowo urged motorists to still carry the physical SIM card as a backup while the system is refined nationwide. ‘In the initial phase, we continue to urge the public to carry the physical SIM as a backup while awaiting full readiness of the system across all regions,’ he said. On Friday (22 May), Korlantas POLRI officially launched the digital SIM during the 2026 Polri Traffic Function Working Conference (Rakernis Fungsi Lalu Lintas Polri 2026). The launch was conducted symbolically by Deputy Police Chief General Dedi Prasetyo, accompanied by the Chief of Korlantas POLRI, Inspector General of Police Agus Suryonugroho, together with other stakeholders.
