Korem Pamungkas Speaks Out on Marshal Incident Involving Aide and Danrem
An incident involving the aide of Danrem 072/Pamungkas Yogyakarta and a marshal at the Mandiri Jogja Marathon (MJM) 2026 in the Prambanan Temple area on Sunday (21/6/2026) has come under public scrutiny after a video of the event went viral on social media. The incident occurred when the aide was not allowed to enter the race track because he was not wearing a BIB (body identification number) as required for participants.
In the circulating video, the marshal asked the individual to leave the track as he was not registered as a participant. Moments later, a participant wearing a BIB appeared and requested that the runner without a bib be allowed back into the sterile area of the race. The request was denied by the marshal, who deemed it a violation of the rules applicable to all participants. The participant, believed to be a high-ranking TNI officer, Brigadier General Yuniar Dwi Hantono, was heard repeatedly stating that the runner without a BIB was his bodyguard. ‘This is my bodyguard. This is my bodyguard,’ Brigadier General Yuniar said in a raised tone to the marshal, as seen in the viral video on Monday (22/6/2026).
Regarding the incident, the Head of Public Relations for Korem 072/Pamungkas, Major Inf Suwito, confirmed that the matter had been resolved peacefully with no further issues between the two parties. ‘It was just a misunderstanding on the ground, and it was settled amicably last night, with both sides forgiving each other,’ Suwito said when contacted on Monday.
A video from the Public Relations of Kodam IV/Diponegoro was also circulated, explaining that the marshal on duty did not recognise Danrem 072/Pamungkas Brigadier General Yuniar Dwi Hantono or his aide because both were wearing official running jerseys like other participants. It was stated that prior to the incident, the aide had run ahead to take documentation of the activity. However, because he was not wearing a BIB or any official attributes, and the marshal was also not wearing official identification, a misunderstanding occurred. The marshal stopped and removed the aide from the track area, believing he lacked the required credentials from the organisers. Seeing the situation, Danrem 072/Pamungkas explained to the marshal that he was an official invited guest of the event and that the man who had been stopped was his bodyguard. After the explanation was given, the tense atmosphere immediately dissipated.
The organisers and marshal subsequently offered an apology. The Danrem also chose to resolve the matter amicably. ‘I would like to apologise for my negligence in participating in the run while wearing a jersey but not a BIB. I realise that this action was a mistake and not in accordance with the applicable rules,’ the aide said in a received video.
