Korean housewives help heart patients

JAKARTA (JP): The Korean Women's Association collected a total of Rp 75,000,000 (US$30,000) during a fund-raising charity Wednesday.

The money, which was contributed by various Korean companies operating in Indonesia, has been donated to the Indonesian Cardiac Foundation which, in turn, will use the funds to finance heart bypass operations for 10 low-income heart patients who cannot afford to pay for their operations.

The association has several times conducted such fund-raising activities for social and charity purposes.

"In 1988, we raised Rp 20,000,000, which we donated to victims of the volcano eruption in Bandung," Mrs. Park Eun Joo, one of the association's executive board members, said. (bas)
