Kopaska Personnel Assist Visually Impaired Community Members in Learning to Dive

The elite Indonesian Navy Frogman Troops Command (Kopaska) invited visually impaired members of the Mata Hati Community (KMH) to experience diving. In an official press release received in Jakarta on Thursday, it was explained that the activity took place at the Fleet Command II Kopaska Unit training pool on Monday (22/6). Commander of the Fleet Command II Kopaska Unit, Navy Colonel (P) Wido Dwi Nugraha, stated that the activity was conducted so that persons with disabilities could experience swimming and diving safely using complete diving equipment. “This activity is expected to increase the self-confidence of KMH members while providing inspiration that limitations are not a barrier to trying new things and gaining valuable experiences,” Wido said. They were also required to undergo health checks to ensure their vital physical condition before diving. With assistance from Kopaska personnel, the participants were able to dive to a depth of 2.5 metres safely and smoothly. “Despite having visual limitations, they can feel the sensation of diving and the experience of being deep below the water’s surface,” he added. Wido expressed hope that this activity would be a new experience for members of the KMH community and could be useful in the future.
