Koops Habema TNI uncovers marijuana fields in Papua Pegunungan
The Indonesian National Armed Forces’ (TNI) Habema Operations Command (Koops Habema) successfully uncovered marijuana fields at two locations in Yahukimo Regency, Papua Pegunungan, namely Kima Village and Air Garam Village, on Monday (13/07).
In a press release received by ANTARA in Jakarta on Thursday, it was explained that TNI personnel managed to find a total of 5,000 marijuana plants at the two sites.
Head of Information for Koops TNI Habema, Lieutenant Colonel Inf M. Wirya Arthadiguna, stated in a written release that the marijuana plants were discovered by personnel from the RI–PNG Mobile Border Security Task Force of Infantry Battalion 725/Woroagi under the Koops TNI Habema.
He explained that the discovery stemmed from information obtained by personnel regarding the existence of marijuana fields during a patrol. Officers then followed up on the information by conducting an investigation and search. After obtaining valid information about the location of the marijuana fields, personnel immediately set out for the site.
“Personnel also carried out reconnaissance and area control to confirm the location suspected to be a cultivation area,” said Wirya.
Upon arriving at the two villages, Wirya said the personnel immediately discovered the marijuana fields there. “In the Kima Village complex, approximately 3,000 marijuana plants were found. Meanwhile, in Air Garam Village, around 2,000 marijuana plants were discovered, along with one bow and 26 arrows in the vicinity,” Wirya detailed.
To date, the authorities are still investigating who was involved in maintaining these marijuana fields. Wirya also confirmed that they will continue to collaborate with the police so that legal action can be taken optimally. “Together with relevant agencies, we will continue to synergise to prevent the circulation of narcotics so that the next generation of Papua can grow up healthy, safe, and have the opportunity to achieve their aspirations and build their homeland,” Wirya concluded.
