The Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (Kontras) is urging police investigators and the TNI Military Police Centre to summon and examine relevant parties to shed light on the case of the attack on human rights activist Andrie Yunus.

Jane Rosalina, Head of the Impunity Monitoring Division at Kontras, stated that the police must promptly summon the Head of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS), the TNI Commander, and the Defence Minister in handling this case.

“To ensure who all were involved in the participation and assistance in the attack on Andrie,” Jane told Tempo on Wednesday, 18 March 2026.

This summoning up to the ministerial and TNI leadership levels, she said, is also part of the demand for them to promptly provide comprehensive information amid differences in the information held by the police and the TNI.

The Defence Minister and TNI Commander, she emphasised, must provide information to the public regarding whether the actions of the suspected perpetrators were separate from the command structure, indicating direct institutional involvement.

Furthermore, she said, the TNI Puspom Commander must promptly identify the suspected perpetrators and ensure they are in good condition, including receiving adequate legal assistance.

The TNI Puspom Deputy Commander, she stated, must also summon and immediately examine the TNI BAIS Head to confirm suspicions of command chain involvement in this case.

“We also request that the security of the field perpetrators be ensured safe from potential threats by parties intending to sabotage and obstruct the investigation,” Jane said.

Previously, in a press conference on the same day in the afternoon, the Metro Jaya Police released the initials of two attackers on Andrie Yunus, namely BHC and MAK. The police also mentioned the possibility of more than four perpetrators.

Meanwhile, the TNI Puspom stated that the initials of the four soldiers are NDP, SL, BWH, and ES. “The four suspects have been secured at the TNI Puspom for further investigation,” said TNI Puspom Commander Major General Yusri Nuryanto during a press conference at TNI Headquarters on Wednesday.

With these differences, Jane said, Kontras and the civil society coalition are demanding verification by independent institutions such as the National Human Rights Commission and the formation of a Joint Fact-Finding Team (TGPF).

Andrie Yunus was attacked by unknown individuals while passing through Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Central Jakarta, on Thursday night, 12 March 2025.

The perpetrators attacked the human rights activist by splashing corrosive chemicals on several parts of his body, from arms, chest, face, to eyes.

Medical records indicate that Andrie suffered burns over 20 percent due to the splashing by the perpetrators. The civil society coalition suspects that the attack on Andrie did not occur just like that, but is related to his activism.

Kontras Coordinator Diman Bagus Arya said that his colleague was attacked by two unknown individuals after recording a podcast event titled “Remilitarism and Judicial Review in Indonesia” held at the YLBHI Office, Central Jakarta.

Before that, Dimas said, Andrie had also been contacted several times by unknown numbers. Kontras recorded eight unknown numbers contacting Andrie in the period from 9-11 March 2026.

Three numbers with unknown identities, while five other numbers are indicated to be from online loan applications and scams.

The terror directed at Andrie is not happening for the first time; a year ago, during discussions on the revision of the TNI Law, Andrie was one of the figures who vocally opposed the discussion.

The alumnus of the Jentera Higher Institute of Law also once stormed a closed meeting on the revision of the TNI Law at the Fairmont Hotel, Jakarta.

After the storming action, Andrie was terrorised by unknown numbers and there was frequent movement of TNI tactical vehicles in front of the Kontras Office.
