Jakarta, VIVA – The Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS) has emphasised that the case of the acid attack on its activist, Andrie Yunus, must be thoroughly uncovered, reaching the upper command structure or the intellectual actors behind the incident.

This statement was delivered by the Head of the Impunity Monitoring Division of KontraS, Jane Rosalina, during a public discussion organised by the Indonesia Youth Congress (IYC) on Monday, 30 March 2026, in a hybrid format.

The discussion was titled ‘Rule of Law and Accountability of Security Apparatus: Investigating the Acid Attack on KontraS Activist, Civil-Military Judicial Reform, the Future of Human Rights and Indonesian Democracy’.

Several speakers were present, including the Chairman of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI), Muhamad Isnur; social-political analyst from Jakarta State University, Ubedilah Badrun; political observer Ray Rangkuti; and criminal law expert from Binus, Ahmad Sofyan.

“The uncovering of the case must not stop at the field perpetrators but must trace to those who gave the orders. Moreover, this step aligns with the statement from President Prabowo Subianto, as previously released in Mata Najwa, which described the acid attack on Andrie Yunus as a form of terrorism that must be thoroughly dismantled. Even President Prabowo has guaranteed this,” said Jane.

Jane stressed that KontraS emphasises the importance of the role of the Indonesian National Police in investigating this case transparently and accountably. On the other hand, said Jane, the TNI must provide a thorough investigation of the case to the police so that it is tried through the general courts.

She reminded that if the case is not seriously uncovered, it has the potential to create public doubts about the government’s commitment to upholding legal justice and protecting civil freedoms in Indonesia.

“Moreover, KontraS together with Andrie Yunus have been actively voicing opposition to the revision of the TNI Law and pushing for a more democratic and humane security sector reform in Indonesia,” said Jane.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI), Muhamad Isnur, on the same occasion highlighted the increasing pattern of terror, doxing, and intimidation against human rights activists, civil society organisations, and influencers who speak critically.
