KontraS Suspects Attack on Andrie Yunus is Part of Systematic Intelligence Operation

The Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS) suspects that the acid attack on its activist Andrie Yunus is part of a systematic intelligence operation. It stated that from the outset, it had suspected an organised pattern in the incident.

“We from the beginning suspected that this is a series of intelligence operations,” said KontraS Working Body Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya during a hearing at Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (31/3/2026).

Dimas said that from initial investigations, the advocacy team found indications of involvement by many parties in the action. Based on CCTV footage tracing and evidence collection using open-source intelligence methods, at least 16 people are suspected to be involved.

“We found that from all the series or construction or reconstruction of CCTV tracing results, evidence searches using various open-source intelligence devices, at least 16 people were found, not including the intellectual actors,” he said.

Dimas revealed suspicions of a large number of perpetrators and a structured pattern of movement. According to him, all actions carried out were a systematically designed series.

“In addition to the number of perpetrators that could be more, this is one series of systematic action efforts, in our terminology, we use the term intelligence operation,” he said.

Furthermore, KontraS found a specific code in the operation. In the internal report they compiled, the operation is said to have the code name ‘Sadang’.

“And then in one special report, it was found that this operation was given the code word ‘Sadang’,” he said.

According to Dimas, the operation is suspected to have begun with a planning stage involving surveillance and monitoring of Andrie Yunus. This activity was carried out by several unidentified individuals who were later identified as part of the operation series.

“This Sadang operation began with planning actions of surveillance and monitoring efforts carried out by the perpetrators or parties that we then identified as unidentified persons to Brother Andrie Yunus, information received there are several operation targets,” he said.

TNI Follow-Up

Previously, the TNI Pushpom stated that there were four soldiers from the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (Bais) who were suspected perpetrators. The four perpetrators are initialled NDP, SL, BHW, and ES.

TNI Pushpom Deputy Chief Major General TNI Yusri Nuryanto stated that the four perpetrators are members of the TNI Bais Denma with branches of the Navy (AL) and Air Force (AU).

Currently, the suspects have been secured. They are also still being further investigated by TNI Pushpom.

In addition, the TNI carried out a handover of the position of Head of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (Kabais). This was done as a form of TNI accountability following the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus involving TNI Bais members.

“So we need to convey here, as a form of accountability, today the handover of the Kabais position has been carried out. Thank you,” said TNI Chief of Information Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah to reporters at TNI Headquarters, Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on Wednesday (25/3).
