Head of the Impunity Monitoring Division of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), Jane Rosalina, has revealed the latest medical condition of Andrie Yunus after two weeks of intensive hospital treatment following an acid attack. Jane stated that her colleague has undergone eye surgery and plastic surgery.

“On Wednesday, 25 March at 10 a.m., Andrie Yunus underwent an integrated surgical procedure involving a team of eye specialists and plastic surgeons in the Kencana operating room for more than four hours,” Jane said when contacted on Thursday, 26 March 2026.

KontraS has received a report on the surgery results from Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital regarding Andrie’s medical condition. Jane explained that during the surgery, the eye specialist team relocated tissue from the inner eye area to cover the exposed region.

The specialist team, she said, also applied an amniotic membrane and reinstalled a protective eye lens. “This procedure aims to repair the surface of the eyeball and support a more optimal tissue healing process,” she stated.

Jane noted that the specialist team discovered progressive thinning of the corneal tissue on the upper to outer side of the right cornea of Andrie’s eye. This occurred due to the ongoing inflammation process.

The doctors, she said, decided to apply an additional amniotic membrane along with temporary suturing of Andrie Yunus’s right eye group. “To protect the eye surface and maximise the tissue recovery process,” she added.

In addition, from the plastic surgery perspective, the specialist team has removed further dead tissue from the Deputy Coordinator of KontraS. Jane stated that the doctors also performed skin grafts on the eye area, chest, and shoulder of Andrie.

This was done to accelerate the healing process of the burns suffered by the human rights activist. She said that currently, the multidisciplinary medical team is still providing comprehensive and ongoing care to Andrie.

“Andrie still has to undergo intensive treatment in the high care unit and cannot be visited for the time being,” she said.

Previously, Andrie Yunus was doused with acid by two unidentified individuals on Thursday night, 12 March 2026, on Jalan Salemba I Talang, Central Jakarta. Andrie was then rushed to the Emergency Installation at RSCM on Friday early morning, 13 March 2026, with complaints of burns to the face, neck, chest, back, and both arms, accompanied by vision impairment in his right eye. The medical report states that Andrie suffered burns covering 24 percent of his body due to corrosive liquid.
